Sustainable Event Planning: A New Vision for Positive Impact

In light of today’s environmental challenges, sustainable event planning has become essential for any organization aiming to combine commitment with efficiency. Embracing eco-responsible practices not only reduces the ecological footprint but also positions the event within a broader movement of social responsibility and innovation.

Why choose sustainable event planning?

An eco-friendly event goes far beyond waste reduction. It strengthens your environmental and social commitment, enhances your brand’s reputation, and integrates seamlessly into a long-term sustainability strategy.

Discover 4 impactful strategies to take your events to the next level!

Transport Optimization and Emission Reduction

^
  • Prioritize Sustainable Transportation and Smart Logistics. Choose sustainable transport options such as soft mobility solutions electric vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrian access to significantly reduce environmental impact.
  • Limit unnecessary travel by optimizing routes, grouping deliveries, and centralizing operations. Thoughtful planning not only reduces your carbon footprint, but also streamlines the event's logistics for greater efficiency and impact.

Responsible Energy Consumption

  • Use Renewable Energy and Promote Energy Efficiency. Power your event with renewable energy sources such as solar or hydroelectric solutions to significantly reduce its environmental impact.
  • Implement energy-saving practices like LED lighting, low-consumption equipment, and smart timers to avoid unnecessary usage.
  • Go a step further by raising awareness among participants. Display tips on eco-friendly behavior, encourage unplugging unused devices, and make sustainability part of the event’s narrative. Empowering your audience is key to creating a lasting and responsible energy culture.

Waste Management and Recycling

  • Implement Selective Sorting and Reduce Waste at the Source. Set up selective sorting stations throughout the venue to promote proper recycling and minimize landfill waste. Clear signage and staff guidance help ensure participant engagement.
  • Replace single-use containers with reusable or compostable alternatives, from tableware to packaging, to significantly cut down on unnecessary waste.
  • Digitize all communication tools: programs, schedules, tickets to reduce paper consumption and support a zero-waste approach. These simple yet effective actions are key to a cleaner, more sustainable event.

Support for the Local Economy and Social Engagement

  • Empower Local Impact and Strengthen Social Commitment. Collaborate with local suppliers and service providers to boost the regional economy while significantly reducing the carbon footprint linked to transportation.
  • Involve your audience through interactive workshops and conferences focused on environmental issues, encouraging informed and responsible behavior.
  • Add meaning to your event by integrating solidarity-based and collaborative actions such as local charity partnerships or community-building initiatives that generate a positive and measurable social impact.
  • Sustainable events thrive when they create value not just for brands, but for people and places too.

The Captivating History of the Escalade: A Tale of Bravery and Traditions

The Fascinating History of the Escalade: A Tale of Bravery and Traditions

The Escalade Festival has its roots in a heroic episode of Geneva's history.

On the night of December 11-12, 1602, the troops of the Duke of Savoy attempted to seize Geneva by surprise. The soldiers planned to scale the city walls (hence the name "Escalade"), but the vigilant and united Genevans successfully repelled the attack.

One of the most memorable acts was that of Mère Royaume, a courageous woman who, upon spotting a soldier climbing the walls, poured a cauldron of boiling soup onto him. This heroic act alerted the townspeople and played a key role in defending the city.

In tribute to this event, chocolate cauldrons have become a quintessential symbol of the festival. Filled with sweets, they are broken together with family or friends after reciting the iconic phrase:
"Thus perished the enemies of the Republic!"

Discover Vibrant Street Art

Geneva's street art scene has blossomed in recent years, with the neighborhood of La Jonction emerging as its vibrant epicenter. This formerly industrial area, situated at the confluence of the Rhône and Arve rivers, has transformed into an open-air gallery of urban expression.

La Jonction's journey began in the early 2010s when local artists started reclaiming abandoned walls. The "Quartier des Bains" project was a significant catalyst, encouraging property owners to offer their walls as canvases. Today, the neighborhood boasts an impressive collection of murals and graffiti pieces, ranging from photorealistic portraits to abstract designs.

The annual Urban art Festival has played a crucial role in establishing La Jonction as a street art destination, bringing together local and international artists. What sets this area apart is not just the quality of its art, but how it's integrated into the community fabric, often addressing social and environmental issues.

La Jonction's success has had a ripple effect, encouraging other Geneva neighborhoods to embrace street art and sparking discussions about public art in urban planning. It's also become a draw for tourists, offering guided tours that provide insights into the stories behind the murals.

This transformation demonstrates how street art can revitalize a neighborhood, foster community engagement, and change perceptions of public space, making La Jonction a shining example of art's power to transform communities.

1. The Jet d’Eau

First up, the Jet d’Eau. This isn’t just any fountain – it’s one of the tallest in the world, shooting water 140 meters into the air. You can see it from all over the city, but the best spot is right by the lakeside. Feel the refreshing mist on your face and enjoy the beautiful scenery around Lake Geneva.

For a bit of history, check out the Reformation Wall in the Parc des Bastions. This impressive monument honors the leaders of the Protestant Reformation, with statues of key figures like John Calvin. It’s a powerful reminder of Geneva’s significant role in religious history.

4. The Perle du Lac

The Perle du Lac is a gem (pun intended) along the lake’s shore. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll, a picnic, or just soaking in the stunning views of the lake and mountains. Don’t miss the History of Science Museum nearby – it’s a fascinating little detour.
